The Republic of Bulgaria was one of the countries that recognized the State of Israel upon its establishment in 1948, and diplomatic relations between the two countries have existed ever since. As a member of the European Union, anyone who wants to obtain Bulgarian citizenship, work, or conduct business in Bulgaria must have their documents translated into Bulgarian with notarized approval.

Our law firm specializes in notarized translations into and from Bulgarian, as well as several other languages. It is important to note that any document required in Bulgaria must be in Bulgarian and notarized—there are no other official languages accepted or permitted for use in Bulgaria.Notarized Translation into Bulgarian

The Persecution of Bulgarian Jews and the Connection to Israel

World War II dramatically changed the fate of Jews in many countries, including Bulgaria and Hungary. During and after the war, many Jews were forced to emigrate and flee the harsh realities they faced. Nearly 50,000 Jews immigrated to Israel from Bulgaria after the country was occupied by the Russian communist regime.

Although Bulgaria was allied with Germany during World War II, Bulgarian Jews were largely spared from the fate of other European Jewry. This was due to the personal protection of King Boris III, who refused to hand over his Jewish citizens. The Bulgarian people also protected their Jewish neighbors. King Boris III was allegedly poisoned by the Nazis, some say due to his desire to protect his Jewish subjects.

Renewing Bulgarian Citizenship

Due to the current diplomatic relations between Israel and Bulgaria, Bulgarian descendants can apply to the Bulgarian embassy in Israel or to government institutions in Bulgaria to renew their Bulgarian citizenship or apply for citizenship as descendants of Bulgarian citizens for their children and grandchildren.

The process of renewing citizenship includes submitting many documents (birth certificates, documents proving a connection to Bulgaria, and more), which must be translated into Bulgarian with notarized approval, and sometimes from Bulgarian, in order to complete the citizenship issuance process.

By certain standards, Bulgaria is considered the poorest country in the European Union. However, as the saying goes, “What do you call the worst medical student upon graduation? Doctor.” In the same way, citizens of the poorest EU country still hold a European passport, allowing them to study, work, and conduct business throughout Europe.

Vacations in Bulgaria

Bulgaria is located in southeastern Europe and features hundreds of luxurious tourist destinations along its coastlines that attract thousands of Israelis every summer.

The interactions between Israelis and various officials in Bulgaria, including hotel clerks, may often create situations where the presentation of translated documents in Bulgarian is necessary. The importance of translating these documents is magnified by the fact that there are very few officials across Bulgaria who speak or understand Hebrew or English, making documents in Hebrew or any other language essentially useless.

A simple translation will not suffice. A notarized translation into Bulgarian (and sometimes an apostille authentication) is required to prove the authenticity of the document to the clerk or any other body.

This also applies to Israeli tourism companies that maintain business relations with other companies in Bulgaria and exchange many documents, which require notarized translation for the completion of transactions.

The Bulgarian language is a Slavic language written in Cyrillic letters (similar to Russian). It is a complex language, with some Bulgarian words reaching up to 39 letters in length, so the translation must be done by a translator who is thoroughly familiar with the language.

Notarized Approval

Our law firm offers translation services and notarized approvals for translator declarations from Bulgarian, into Bulgarian, and other languages.

Practically speaking, translation services are provided for all types of documents: legal documents, certificates, articles, degrees, recommendations, medical documents, and any other document the client may require.

Additionally, our team can obtain apostille certification, all at fair prices.
